Alex Oliver Associates is a RIBA chartered architectural practice. Since being established in 1999, we have developed extensive experience in the conservation, restoration and adaptation of historic listed buildings, alongside the design of new buildings in sensitive historic and landscape locations.

As architects and designers, we can provide a full service from initial consultation, through all phases of design and construction to successful handover to our clients at the end of the project.  Within the office we have a range of experiences and skills which enables us to offer a range of supplementary services, including planning consultancy, project management, contract administration, landscape design and interior design.

Our Design Approach

We are a small, dynamic team of architects who take great delight in creating fine architecture and environments.  The buildings that we design seek to strike the balance between formality and informality through an architecture that draws on the strengths of both traditional and modern architecture. We believe that good design is not a matter of style, but of substance, skill and care.

Our design interests range from the modern through to the traditional. Our ambition is to create fine architecture and environments through clarity of design, awareness of scale, and the elegance of clean harmonious proportion. Our buildings value tradition while reflecting contemporary life.

TRADITIONAL COUNTRY HOUSES

Our approach to New Classical Architecture is based on a thorough understanding of the principles and proportions of the orders, and we strive to create designs which are both sympathetic and innovative. We use both traditional and modern materials and techniques to create traditional forms, and our designs often blend elements of the past with contemporary detailing.

Our portfolio includes a wide range of traditional projects, including new builds, extensions, renovations and restorations. Our design process is driven by a commitment to creating architecture which is both beautiful and functional. We work closely with our clients to ensure that their vision is realised, and that the end result is not only harmonious, but also truly individual.

CONSERVATION AND HERITAGE

Alex Oliver Associates has developed a reputation for the sensitive repair of listed buildings and thoughtful architectural design solutions for complex and sensitive historic sites. We have considerable experience of working with private, commercial and public sector clients. As well as a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Alex also is on the Register of Architects Accredited in Building Conservation (AABC). This means that we are able to bring our specialist knowledge and experience of historic buildings to bear on each project.

We have a successful track record of working on listed buildings.  Our approach is to combine our architectural expertise with a thorough understanding of the historic context of each building. We strive to create solutions that are sensitive to the original architecture as well as being appropriate for modern-day use.

We use our experience of working on listed buildings to ensure that the design proposals meet the requirements of the relevant conservation authorities. We also work with specialist contractors and suppliers to ensure that the works are completed to the highest standards.

Location

​Located in the South of England we work extensively across the region.  Much of our work is focused in the counties of Wiltshire, Hampshire, Berkshire and Surrey as well as Greater London, although we have worked across the country and abroad.
