Adapting Historic Buildings for Modern Life

Many of the important Grade I and II* listed buildings we work on were designed for a very different way of living. Today we are often asked to create larger reception rooms and kitchens, improved connections to gardens, better circulation and more flexible spaces for family life.

The challenge is finding ways to introduce these requirements without losing the character that makes historic buildings special. Successful adaptation starts with understanding what is significant about a building and what can change without harming its heritage value.

When approached sensitively, historic buildings can continue to evolve and remain both functional and beautiful places to live.
