Contemporary Country House

Alex Oliver Associates were commissioned to design a contemporary country home that seamlessly blended modern architectural elements with traditional vernacular aesthetics. The project, situated on a steeply sloping site in Wiltshire, presented a unique opportunity to create a home that responded thoughtfully to its natural surroundings.

The design embraced the challenges of the sloping terrain, integrating the house into the landscape to maximise both functionality and visual impact. The architecture capitalised on the site’s contours, offering expansive views across the countryside while creating a dynamic interplay between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Sustainability and contextual sensitivity guided the material selection and detailing throughout the project. The design incorporates natural stone, timber, and expansive glazing to reflect both modern sensibilities and local architectural traditions. This house is a clear example of how contemporary design can enrich the rural landscape, offering comfort, longevity, and a meaningful connection to place.
