Repair & Alteration of a Grade II Listed Building

Reworking a former car dealership into a mixed-use scheme within a Conservation Area

Located on Marlborough High Street in Wiltshire, this project transforms two Grade II listed buildings dating from the late 1700s and early 1800s. Previously altered with a single 1970s shopfront, the pair had lost much of their original character and scale.

The brief called for a sensitive reinvention of the site, delivering a mix of retail, commercial, and residential spaces while restoring the architectural integrity of the street frontage.

A key move was to re-establish the identity of each building. The incongruous modern frontage was removed and replaced with two new timber shopfronts — designed to reflect the individual character, scale, and detailing of the historic façades.
